Sarah Foley
Foley IP Law Founder Sarah Foley is a registered U.S. patent attorney with over 17 years of experience counseling clients in all areas of intellectual property law. Ms. Foley has deep expertise within the technology sector, including software, hardware, networking, telecommunications and computer systems.
Over the course of her career, Ms. Foley has helped clients protect innovation in areas such as mobile device software and hardware, IoT and connected systems, image and natural language processing, network architecture, virtual and augmented reality, AI and computer learning, aerospace, aeronautics, robotics, autonomous vehicle systems, machinery, automotive and mechanical technologies.
Ms. Foley started her career on Capitol Hill, working for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Her time on the Hill introduced her to the world of intellectual property through her Representative’s work on the IP Subcommittee of the Judiciary, inspiring her to pursue a career in IP law. During law school, Ms. Foley worked as a Law Clerk at the Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, and as a Legal Intern with the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Despite enjoying the other government service opportunities she explored, IP law remained foremost in her interests and persisted as her main pursuit.
Ms. Foley began her legal career at a boutique IP firm that provided her with invaluable training and relationships that she maintains to this day. She gained additional and diverse IP experience at a large national firm before co-founding Barta, Jones & Foley, PLLC in 2016, where she served as a Managing Partner and Chief Diversity Officer.
Ms. Foley has been recognized by Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers® as a Texas Rising Star in 2010, 2020 and 2021, and as a Top Woman Attorney in 2020.
Outside of work, Ms. Foley enjoys spending time with her family, learning new languages with her kids on Duolingo®, spoiling the cutest dog in the world and traveling. She loves finding new recipes to explore and hosting friends for dinner at her home. She is passionate about helping refugee families in her community, getting to know their stories and finding ways to support them in their new circumstances. Ms. Foley is also an avid reader and welcomes book recommendations, although her to-read list is piling up.
